Vietnam War and Peace
Vietnam War and Peace is a poetic musical composition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War (1975-2025). Written by Vietnamese-Australian composer Le-Tuyen Nguyễn who was born during the Vietnam War, the composition paints the images and moments of the darkest and most glorious days in Vietnamese 4000 year history.
Based on ethnomusicological research, selected Vietnamese traditional musical materials are weaved together with music of other cultures comprising Western, Indian and East European. The ensemble consists of guitar, piano/keyboard, percussion, and vocals (solo and choir). This unprecedented project is an international collaboration between Dr. Le-Tuyen Nguyễn, composer and guitarist; Mr. Vladan Milencovic, pianist, composer and faculty member at Bridgewater State University (BSU); Dr. Salil Sachdev, composer, percussionist and faculty member, BSU; Dr. Sarah McQuarrie, pianist and Chair of the Music Department, BSU; Dr. Brad Dumont, Choir Director, BSU; and Dr. Ron Sherwin, Director of the Social Justice Choir and Chair of the Music Department at University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
